About REMS
Real Estate Management System - Senior Project
Project Overview
REMS (Real Estate Management System) is a comprehensive property management platform designed to help real estate agencies list, manage, and market their properties efficiently. The system provides a cost-effective alternative to expensive third-party solutions, giving agencies complete control over their data and customer interactions.
This system was developed as a senior-level capstone project by Information Technology Management (ITM) students at the University of Minnesota. Our team applied software development practices and IT management principles to create a practical solution for real-world business challenges in the real estate industry.
Project Goals
Our primary goal was to create a practical alternative to third-party real estate listing platforms that typically cost agencies around $5,000/month. By developing REMS, we aimed to help agencies reduce monthly costs while maintaining control over their property listings and customer data.
Additional goals included creating an intuitive user interface, implementing secure user authentication, developing a reliable database structure, and ensuring that the system could scale to handle the needs of growing real estate agencies.
Data Management
Efficient property data storage and retrieval with optimized search capabilities.
User Security
Secure authentication system with different access levels for admins, agents, and users.
Property Search
Advanced search and filtering tools to help users find properties that match their criteria.

System Features
The Real Estate Management System includes three distinct user roles: admin, agent, and user/visitor. Each role has specific permissions and capabilities within the system. Users register with their personal information to access the appropriate features based on their role.
Property listings can be searched by various criteria including price, size (square feet), number of bedrooms, number of bathrooms, location, and property type. Agents can upload up to 99 photos per property, and all listings comply with state guidelines for real estate marketing.
Cost Reduction
Eliminates the need for expensive third-party platforms, saving agencies $5,000 monthly.
Data Control
Gives agencies complete ownership of customer data and website analytics.
Easy Management
Simplifies property listing, user management, and customer interactions.
